Harrisburg, PA (May 11, 2017)—Keystone Human Services is pleased to announce that Veronica Rotaru has received ANCOR’s 2017 Direct Support Professional of the Year in the Republic of Moldova Award! This is the first time that a direct support professional in Moldova has received this award.
Given annually, this award honors direct support professionals who have been exemplary in providing services and supporting the organization’s mission.
Veronica has served as a direct support professional for three years, working in the Supported Living Service in Făleşti where she supports six individuals with intellectual disabilities. She is dedicated to supporting these individuals to live full lives in the community and reach their dreams. When one of the men she supports wanted to find a job, own his own home, and have a family, she worked hard to support him to achieve those goals.
Using her connections with people in the community, she helped him find a job. After he purchased his own home, Veronica gathered the community to help renovate and refurbish the house. This gentleman is now a homeowner and is engaged and plans to start a family.
“The most important lesson for me,” said Veronica, “is that trust should be learned. And that promises are perhaps the basic condition for building trust.”
Keystone thanks Veronica for her dedication and commitment to the people she supports.
ANCOR is the national association of residential service providers who benefit people with intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, and those experiencing mental illness.
