Casey Gould Receives 2024 Spirit of Volunteerism Award
Congratulations to Casey Gould, the 2024 recipient of the Nancy and Robert Fierer Spirit of Volunteerism Award! Presented annually by Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD), this award recognizes volunteers who serve as champions for SSD and its mission, supporting people to confidently live their best lives with their assistance dog by their side.
“Casey’s greatest gift as a volunteer is how she uplifts others,” said Deb Tack, Executive Director of Susquehanna Service Dogs. “She encourages and supports other volunteers to be the very best they can be. She builds a strong sense of community as we all work together to raise life-changing assistance dogs.”
Casey and her family have been puppy raisers since 2017 and have raised seven puppies. In addition to raising puppies, she is a puppy sitter and whelping host for new litters of puppies. She helps with public access testing for our assistance, hearing, and facility dog teams; conducts home visits for potential volunteers; helps work our Advanced Training dogs in public; and has mentored other volunteers. Casey is always willing to lend a hand for an organization task or anything creative – like brightening the faded rocks in SSD’s rock garden or making over two hundred ornaments, each personalized with the names of the dogs in SSD’s program.
“Volunteering with Susquehanna Service Dogs has opened my eyes to a whole new world,” said Casey. “It’s so rewarding. Raising a puppy for someone you don’t know, knowing they need it more than you, is such a selfless act. It has shown my family how giving back makes your heart so full!”
Her love for Susquehanna Service Dogs’ mission and dedication to building a strong community of volunteers exemplify the spirit of volunteerism.
