The COVID-19 pandemic brought life as we knew it to a standstill. Businesses, schools, and even our own homes had to close their doors and “social and physical distancing” became the new normal. For many people who were living in institutions with plans in place to move into new, more integrated community homes, those doors closed as well. But has keeping people segregated and even confined in institutions truly served people well? Has it kept them safe, healthy and well; protected from a potentially deadly pandemic? Or has it created more danger and even compromised the well-being of many vulnerable people? Join Dan Mathieu and Betsy Neuville for a detailed look at how the pandemic has impacted the lives of people living at Southbury Training School in Connecticut and for some deep discussion on how these times have revealed the fragility of the community movement.
