Congratulations to Kristin Testerman, who was selected at the Central Region Direct Support Professional of the Year Award by PAR. She received this honor at PAR’s Annual Solutions Conference on October 21 in Harrisburg.
For over eight years, Kristin has served as a Direct Support Professional. She has built strong relationships with the three people she supports, making sure she knows and understands them so she can provide meaningful support. When one person was diagnosed with dementia a few years ago, she continually sought out new and creative ways to support him. She has also encouraged and assisted her coworkers on multiple occasions, sometimes even offering guidance over the phone.
In 2016, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She continued to work throughout her chemotherapy and radiation treatments and is now in remission. Through all of this, her commitment to her coworkers and the people she serves never wavered.
“Kristin Testerman is devoted to the people she serves. For her, like many Direct Support Professionals, this is a calling—not just a job, but a family too,” said Mark Davis, President and CEO of PAR. “We are so grateful for Kristin and the thousands of dedicated Direct Support Professionals around Pennsylvania who help individuals with intellectual disability or autism live and thrive in their communities.”
“We’re proud that Kristin has won this well-deserved award,” said Charles Hooker, President and CEO of Keystone Human Services. “Her work as a Direct Support Professional is making a difference in the lives of the people she supports.”
