PA Governor Recognizes Susquehanna Service Dogs
Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD) is honored to receive a letter of recognition from Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro for our work supporting people with disability to live full lives within the community. With a network of over 600 volunteers who give an average of 40,000 hours each month, SSD raises, trains, and places assistance dogs to give people the confidence to live more independently and achieve their dreams.

Greetings:
It is my honor to recognize Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD) for its contributions to our Commonwealth.
Pennsylvania has a proud history of ensuring people with a disability are afforded the same opportunities and have access to services that promote each person’s ability to live and contribute to their communities. Founded in 1993, SSD represents one of these services through offering quality service dogs to individuals with a disability. Consisting of a large volunteer base which helps to raise and place the dogs in training by exposing the dogs to different environments, provide basic house manners, and educate the community on service dogs, the work of this organization is extensive, difficult, and immensely necessary. SSD has successfully placed hundreds of service dogs with individuals throughout Pennsylvania and our neighbor states. SSD’s caliber of character, leadership, and desire for helping others is impressive and indicative of the fundamental tenants held dearly by the people of our Commonwealth.
On behalf of all Pennsylvanians, I am honored to recognize the dedication of this organization to our Commonwealth. Please accept my best wishes for continued success.
GIVEN under my hand and the Seal of the Governor, at the City of Harrisburg, this twenty-ninth day of March two thousand twenty-four, the year of the Commonwealth the two hundred forty-eighth.
Governor Josh Shapiro
