IMG_0281(Harrisburg, PA) November 16, 2021 – On Veterans Day, Team Foster presented Susquehanna Service Dogs with a check for $100,000, part of an ongoing partnership to place assistance dogs with veterans.

The partnership between SSD and Team Foster began in 2016. Since then, Team Foster has not only named a litter of puppies (the Team Foster Litter), but they have also donated over $200,000 to support veterans to receive assistance dogs.

This latest donation also includes support for veterans as they go through the process of receiving an assistance dog—the application, interviews, the matching process, and team training.

When a veteran receives their assistance dog, they receive ongoing support on two fronts. Susquehanna Service Dogs is there for the life of the dog, providing education, training, and support. Team Foster also provides support for the veteran.

Team Foster has played a pivotal role in the development of SSD’s Philly Area Puppy Raising Program, helping to recruit puppy raisers and sitters and find space for puppy classes.

Ten puppies are currently being raised in the Philadelphia. SSD Franklin, who was raised there, was recently placed as a facility dog.

“Susquehanna Service Dogs and Team Foster share a mission of placing assistance dogs with veterans and changing their lives,” says Deb Tack, Director of SSD. “Together we are able to help veterans lead full lives and do things that didn’t seem possible.”

“This partnership helps carry on the legacy of Captain Erick Foster and ensure there is No Hero Left Behind,” says Nick Liermann, Executive Director of Team Foster. “According to the VA, we continue to lose over 20 Veterans and service members to suicide every single day. Working together with SSD to battle PTSD, we are saving Veteran lives.”
